The Australian Merino Sheepskin

The Merino Sheep came to be in the early 1800's as Australia was being settled by the British. Governor Mcather was given the task of breeding sheep that could withstand the harsh Australian climatic conditions. He set about mating a mixture of sheep from different parts of the world, with sheep from Great Britain. Finally, he came up with a crossbreed of British and Spanish that became the famous Australian Merino Sheep. Since that day, this Sheep has produced one of the finest quality wools the world has ever known.

Qualities of the Sheepskin

Sheepskin in one of the best natural insulators known to man. The reason for this is that every fibre in the wool is naturally hollow. This means that a transfer of hot to cold cannot take place. What makes the Merino Sheepskin the best in the world is the density of the wool fibre. Sheep are a herd grown product, not an endangered species. In Australia we have a saying, "every man and his dog has a pair of Sheepskin Boots". When I came to Canada, I couldn't believe that in this climate hardly anyone is wearing the most naturally warm, comfortable and good looking product on the market. Get into it, it was made for you.

Durable and Washable

In the days of our forefathers, skins were worn for warmth and durability. Trappers and Mountain Men were known to wear the same coatskins all their adult lives. My coat is 18 years old and is still talked about and looks as good as the day it was made. I have it dry cleaned once a year and spillages simply wipe away with a damp cloth.
